I examine the effect of employment of people with disabilities on their health, life satisfaction, and household finance, along with the spillover effect on their partners’ mental health and labor supply. I find that the impact on mental health differs by gender. Men experience a short-run improvement in depressive symptoms and less economic burden. Women experience little impact on mental health outcomes or economic burden, while reporting losing weight over 5kg and emotional violence more often. The disabled workers’ partners experience less depressive symptoms and better self-esteem in a short run, but little increase in their labor supply. The study emphasizes the need to consider job quality and possible family spillover when evaluating and designing disability employment policies.
