ㅇ Abstract
: The importance of peer effects on student outcomes has received significant attention in the literature over the past two decades. Recent research has focused on identifying the precise mechanisms underlying these effects. Consequently, there has been an emergence of interest in the role of disruptive peers. However, most studies examining the impact of disruptive peers have primarily utilized the extreme cases, such as domestic violence or alcoholic parents. This paper seeks to investigate the effects of a milder degree of disruption by employing instrumental variables that capture aspects of the home environment, including trust, rational explanation, and supervision within the parent-child relationship. To address the issue of selection bias, this study utilizes the unique educational setting in Korea, where students are randomly assigned to schools within their residential areas.
