In this seminar, I introduce the Korean adaptation of occ2vec (Mühlbach, 2022), a methodology that embeds occupations into vector representations using natural language processing and detailed descriptions of occupations.
As an application, I construct a "women-friendly" index by quantifying the semantic overlap between textual descriptions and key amenity characteristics(including physical demands, independence, schedule flexibility, work autonomy, pace, remote work options, job training, and meaningfulness) that are preferred by women. I examine its relationship with housework time allocation among dual-earner couples. Preliminary results reveal that higher job amenities correlate with increased housework time, with this effect substantially more pronounced among women. I disaggregate this association by specific amenity dimensions and explore the possible explanation.
